I'm Kate Horvath — a teacher, author, and leadership practitioner. Through keynote speaking, workshops, and consulting, I help educators, nonprofits, and organizations create cultures where courage costs less and kindness spreads further.

About Kate
I've spent more than twenty years in education as a teacher, mentor, and leadership practitioner. The most important lessons haven't come from a textbook — they've come from classrooms, difficult conversations, unexpected failures, and the remarkable people who trusted me with their stories.
What fascinates me isn't simply how people lead. It's how cultures are built. I've seen a single teacher transform a school by asking one thoughtful question. I've watched middle schoolers tackle community problems with creativity and compassion. Lasting change rarely begins with grand gestures — it begins with ordinary people choosing courage in ordinary moments.
When I'm not speaking or writing, you'll find me collecting stories, wandering bookstores, drinking tea, and spending time with my family in North Carolina.
Ways to Work Together
Every engagement is interactive, thoughtful, and tailored to the audience — because lasting transformation begins with meaningful conversations and the courage to take the first step.

Designing Cultures Where Courage Costs Less
A book for anyone building teams, classrooms, or communities — and wondering why honest conversation still feels so hard. Drawing on years in schools and stories from leaders across sectors, Bend Without Breaking explores what it takes to design cultures where people can speak up, stretch, and stay whole.
Part field guide, part reflection, it offers language and practices for the ordinary moments where courage is actually built.

Field Notes
A weekly conversation about leadership, education, culture, and what it means to be human. Pull up a chair.

Leadership
A single question, offered with genuine curiosity, can change the temperature of an entire room. Here's what I've learned about asking the ones that matter.

Education
Belonging isn't a program or a poster on the wall. It's a hundred small decisions we make about who gets seen, heard, and invited in.

Culture
Cultures where people speak up don't happen by accident. They're designed — one honest conversation at a time.
